Tacofino + the beach.

Days off, more than anything, are usually spent with my mom going around the city. Although we love trying new spots to eat and finding hidden gems around town, we always find ourselves so indecisive when it comes to where we want to go. This particular Sunday night - we decided on a late dinner at Tacofino, a little taco joint in Gastown.
Before that, we decide to hangout at one of our favourite hideaways. Even though I'm not a big fan of the beach (I get it, I'm crazy), I love going to this particular spot. The sun set slow and the tides grew stronger by the minute. Not to mention - it was howling wind. I almost had to chase my hat into the sea a few times. Also, here's a little tip: I'm totally an advocate for platform heels, but maybe skip out on them at a beach with rocks everywhere.
This was the week I hurt my back, I believe. Piece it together: a pulled back, platform heels, wet rocks everywhere, the wind pulling in every direction and a clumsy girl like me. I slipped and tripped on almost everything. Can you imagine what I'm like on a daily basis? I think I need someone to hold me at all times, HA.
Said it once and I'll say it again - I'm a walking safety hazard.
Here are some pics I took of my mother + the sea.
Despite my distaste for the beach, I have the odd exceptions when it comes to such. I love a chilly summer night spent on the beach with a sweater and someone to talk to. Nothing beats the feeling, to be completely honest. I think it all has to do with how I don't particularly like the harsh sun or even the feeling of sand on my feet. I'm the friend that sits in the shade and has every inch of skin covered when it's 30 something degrees Celsius with sunscreen lathered all over. I'm that person.
Contrary to everything I just said, writing is actually quite therapeutic near the sea. The waves crash and, in a way, soothe the writing process; not to mention, the thought process as well. Try it sometime.
After deciding it was way too cold for any of our liking, we headed back to the car and blasted the heat. My back hurt way too much to even sit up properly, so I reclined my seat back until we reached Tacofino. I'm pretty sure being cold, tired, and hungry have the be THE worst combination. Add an injury to that too. Good thing I wasn't grumpy.
If you haven't been to Tacofino before, it's a cute taqueria that originated in Tofino, BC and migrated around the lower mainland. We ordered a couple mushroom + cheese tacos, a squash one, and a fish taco - ALL OF WHICH I RECOMMEND. I have HEART EYES for their tacos!
Take time to appreciate all the experiences you have in this life... Go try some new food while you're at it.
