A year in review // Best moments of 2014

Ah. It's that weird transitional time of the year again, midway through Christmas and New Years, when all you have planned is to recover from a food coma. Also that time of the year when those "2015 please be good to me" photos and statuses pop up on your feed. Bleh. Back to what I was saying, while food coma-ing, I gathered a list of my favourite memories of 2014, month by month- and boy do I have a lot to say and share. I learned SO many things this year, but the biggest one of them all was probably letting go of things/people that were once important to me; that once added value to my life. However- the truth I learned is that you don't actually need what you think you need to fulfill the hole your life. Materialistic things and crappy gimmicks/egotistic lies don't do you any good. Find peace and happiness within yourself THEN branch out to the world.

ANYWAYS. Done with that nonsense. Take a little peek into my favourite experiences of the year. Here's to a healthy/happy 2015! Be back when I awaken from my food coma!

Of course, being the music lover I am, I'm obviously going to give you guys a little write up on the best albums made this year. Aaaaand for your convenience, I attached my personal favourite tunes off of each album. Enjoy!

Ryan Adams // Ryan Adams

It's a little weird how much I love this album. You might have seen DRA'S self-titled at your local Starbucks in the CD pile by the registers. I highly recommend you actually pick it up and buy it! Listening to the guitar tones sound close to heaven. If you listen close enough you might actually be able to hear the angels singing! Hey- it also got nominated for a Grammy recently! Congrats Ryan + PAXAM.

12.9.14.

I'm all kinds of obsessed with turtlenecks and of course Matt Healy's style. I was watching an interview and I realized that I kinda had the same outfit he had on. I bought the cardigan out of repulsiveness while shopping for my best friend's birthday present (we have matching ones) - and it's probably one of the most comfy, yet warm overcoat I have. Oh and did I mention it was under $20?! Tie up a little topknot on your head and you're set. Christmas is approaching!

What inspires my fashion + look of the week

Recently, I was asked my inspiration behind my sense of style and what triggered my infatuation with fashion. I soon realized that I couldn't give a proper answer and all I could come up with was "I don't know". But what I do know is that fashion to me is way more than just an "I don't know".

What better way to justify fashion than on a little blog post.

Maybe cliche, but clothing is my favourite creative outlet. I love to dress myself. As narcissistic as that sounds, I swear I enjoy doing other things; writing, reading, ballet, etc. (just to clarify). My outfit policy is comfort, creativity + confidence. All three are traits that our generation of young people seem to lack, sadly. I want to be able to help bring out those traits, even if it is as simple as giving someone a compliment.

I find myself satisfied with often being called "edgy" and doing my part by dressing "edgy". It's always how I convey my personality. I ALWAYS appreciate compliments/comments about what I wear/how I style my clothes, but at the end of the day, I think it all comes down to the level of comfort/creativity/confidence you have.. In your clothing, but more importantly with yourself.

Be able to compliment freely and make people feel good about themselves, but also be comfortable with what you wear and ultimately, be comfortable with yourself.

That being said... Here's an outfit I've really enjoyed wearing lately made up of basic components; jeans, a turtleneck, open poncho, and boots, styled with a pair of glasses.

IN MY MIND

"It started out in the desert / we put it all on film"

Hey all! I apologize for the lack of entries lately, as I've been extra loaded with work/the hectic Nutcracker production/and the launch of our youtube channel.

Over the course of the summer, I bought a cheap little expired (haha) disposable camera and took it around with me throughout my travels. A lot, and by a lot I mean, A LOT of people have asked me countless times why I chose to take photos on a disposable when I have an amazing quality DSLR.

It's the fun of it all. Not seeing your photos until you get it developed, the surprise of how interestingly your shots turn out. It's all about that feeling you get when you see your pictures for the first time, weeks and weeks after taking them. Memories flood back; at least for me, that was the case.

Here are a few of my favourite photos:

Megan and I goofing off. We look like tomatoes.

L: I accidentally held onto the flash, which glared off of the airplane window, but it turned out pretty interestingly. // R: Everything in that exact moment was so perfect and beautiful. The sun woke me up that morning + I felt so thankful to be alive.

L: I visited OAKNYC's new location and fell in loOoove. // R: Taken midway through the desert. The skies were big and my heart was full.

I wrote captions on the back of the print, as well as the exact time + date they were taken. Summer is long gone and fall is headed in full swing, but these pictures will always remind me of the memories I had on the road. I highly recommend you take a chance with film before digital photos wipe them out.

Futuristic Fashion

Here's an outfit I quickly put together one morning in California and decided to shoot. While packing, I found a leather jumper I hardly ever use. I paired it with a black turtleneck + some gold bangles/rings/jewelry from my grandma.

What really sealed the outfit for me were the funky sunglasses. I love the whole "futuristic" look! Thank goodness for the free bin at vintage thrift stores!

OAK

One of the first and most important things I set for myself in Cali was to visit my favourite store, OAK. If you aren't familiar with the line, all designs are simplistic, fashionable and straight up black & white.

The staff were so friendly and resourceful at both locations I visited! - dressed SO nicely, I wish I had taken a picture with them. The manager was super pretty and kind enough to put my clothes on hold!

After drooling over their clothing online for months and months now, I'm sosososo happy to say my OAK dreams are fulfilled. If you are looking for a cool place to shop - OAK is your best bet!

THROUGH MY EYES

It's a longer road to California than I thought...

Hey everybody! It's approximately 12:36 AM as I'm writing to you from Cali, situated in a comfy bed! The flight yesterday was a little too shaky for my taste. I have to thank Starbucks and mainly Jason Isbell's hell of a record 'Southeastern' for calming me down and keeping me sane.

I love the sight of palm trees everywhere. Vacation, it is, truly! I've been nothing but grateful and happy being here. I don't know what it is.. Change in scenery/people/lifestyle. It's so fascinating.

Today I did a little shopping around DTLA, bought a couple things from Urban Outfitters and OAK (more to that in later entries! Stay tuned!). And I also got to hangout with my Cali family!

Fashion?!?

IN MY MIND

Language // Perspective

Hey! Hello! It's little me checking in from home at 12:36 in the AM and I had a few thoughts swimming around in my head. After a little Breaking Bad marathon to myself on the couch, midst scrolling through my tumblr feed, and sipping on some leftover Indian chai tea from dinner, an intruding thought dawned on me.

I've been sat staring at this screen for awhile, fingers on keyboard, wondering how exactly to convey this entry - but I decided that I'm going with the more 'straightforward' approach.

The amount of hate I've seen floating around lately is incredible - in the worst way possible. People anonymously body shaming others, criticizing, and thinking that it is okay to do so. I can't take it anymore. Seeing such nice people undeserving of crude "hate" messages. The power of social media is crazy - and its effects can be felt from as far as that device in hand to a little pumping organ hollowing in a chest.

No one is perfect. My tongue slips a lot of the time and sometimes it gets hard to hold it. Imperfections hold for learning experiences!

But really - What's with all the hate? Use your words positively. Rid the pompousness, step out of the common egocentric world and see into the good. Count your blessings, give compliments freely and more often, enrich yourself with good company - and heck, eat that chocolate bar laying on your nightstand. After all, it is your life and you have one.

It's all in understanding. It's all in language and perspective. Use your conscience and be capricious in a good way.

It's getting late as I close this entry and I am now realizing that half of the things I talked about could quite possibly not make any sense to me in the morning. My cup of chai is running empty and its residue is starting to dry, which means it's time for bed.

Start doing things that will leave a proper lasting impression on others, but first start doing things that benefit you.

It starts with you.

MAC Lipstick Haul

Happy Tuesday! Lipstick is super important and key to being the most elegant, yet pimp boss out there, or at least key to looking like one! I recently hauled a few lip products from MAC a couple days ago and I thought I would share them with you guys before Summer caves in. This post is also a product of Iggy's 'Work' (lol) and procrastination of homework and studying for final exams (boo).

FILM NOIR is the first - and favourite one - that I've tried on so far. It's a nice cross between a burgundy and a deep red that would look perfect on vampy pale skin. Its satin finish gives a nice gleam when hit by any sort of light. Take a look on my instagram if you want to see what it looks like worn on!

SIN is a pretty deep red and would look absolutely stunning with any formal attire or even just casual outings. In lipstick form and packaging, Sin looks a lot similar to Film Noir. Unlike Film Noir, Sin gives you a matte finish, which can be trickier to put on at times. Always have your handy dandy lip liner in hand!

BRAVE is quite a switch up from what I usually wear. It's pale-r and pink-er than what I would go for on a regular basis. BUT it's way more ideal for everyday use and it looks quite natural. While researching on it, I found out that Kylie Jenner uses this one! And we all know her lips are always on point!

DIVA was the last one I purchased on my little spree - and truly I can tell you that its name is more than appropriate! Like Sin, Diva is also matte. It's also a little brighter in colour when put on - I promise! It's different from Sin, but not totally evident in lipstick form itself! You'd have you to put it on to see the difference. It's a nice fall color - but regardless of the season, it looks best with minimal makeup on to highlight your lips.

THROUGH MY EYES

The 1975/Bad Suns/Sir Sly // Vogue Theatre // 4.26.14.

Okay, to get this off my chest straight away - this honestly had to be one of the best shows I'd ever been to. It was a Christmas present from my mom and waiting for the day to come had to be the hardest 4 months of my life! I've been swamped in school - stuck in that 3/4 of the semester "can i give up now?" type deal - and this was what set me back on track again.

Mind you that security took my baby away at the door and there was no way I could take pictures with my little Rebel. Times like those make me wish I had a press pass.

However, the night was amazing and began with Sir Sly, followed by Bad Suns, then The 1975. Matty carried a bottle of wine on stage, had his floral blouse fully undone and flipped his hair every other minute. No no no wait - he came out in a leather jacket and suddenly left mid-show, came back a few minutes later with his top undone, spliff in hand. Love.

First Post

Hey all!

Welcome and thank you for stumbling across my new little blog! Here, you'll find anything from daily/weekly/monthly adventures, photography to some personal written blogs. I suppose I'll start with a little intro in case we've never met!

My name is Legacy Jynn, but most know me as Jynn. I'm a full time student residing in Vancouver, BC, though my heart is anchored way up and out of this town. I'm a huge animal lover, music enthusiast, and I love spontaneous road trips. I was brought up with a huge love and infatuation for healthy eating/living thanks to my vegetarian mom. (Clean living is very cool. Try it!) Cliche to say, but I'm pretty quiet around new people but will not shut up once you get to know me! My future career plans are yet to be decided (and they're freaking me out!). Keep distance, I'm a walking safety precaution. Hence the reason I have a nasty second degree burn on my hand. ew.

Okay, let's cut straight to the chase on why I created this blog.

Tumblr is cool and all (no tumblr hate!! i still use mine regularly), but I figured a more 'personal' blog would be nice to manage. No odd reblogs or dash distractions, just a clean slate. I plan to update at least once a week between schoolwork and life plans. I'll aim for Fridays!
