ASKED BY YOU: My favourite movies

7:34:00 PM

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge movie/television junky as everyone else seems to be. I get so restless sitting through movies that I even fall asleep sometimes (fun fact: I can fall asleep almost anywhere). The only television shows I've watched religiously were The McCarthy's, Breaking Bad and The Buried Life.. All of which are either finished or taken off air. Chances are if you ask me if I've seen a particular movie.... the answer is most likely "no." I suck. I get it.

(Thank you to @viciousxwriter on Instagram for requesting this! Keep 'em coming!)

HOT ROD

Everyone that I make watch Hot Rod with me thinks it's the most stupid movie. I love stupid humor, and maybe that's why no one understands what I laugh about. The plot revolves around a stuntman, Rod Kimble, who performs amateur stunts to raise money for his step father's heart surgery, with the help of his neighbour (Isla as 'Denise'), step brother and group of friends.  It stars SNL actors The Lonely Island, Bill Hader, and Isla Fisher. Truly 'squad goals' if you ask me.  I've seen it waaaaay too many times to count and still laugh as hard each time.

THIS IS 40

Again with the SNL stars. It's really no secret that I love Paul Rudd at this point, and Leslie Mann's character was hilarious. Both play a husband/wife team, with two kids, who have hit a 'midlife crisis' and struggle to spice the married life up. It's just all around funny, but I don't know if I'd recommend a younger audience watching it/watching it with your parents. (Use your own discretion, young ones!) One of my favourite scenes would be the ending when Ryan Adams makes a cameo playing 'Lucky Now' with a full band. Sealed the deal for me.

THE OTHER GUYS

Along with Hot Rod, this movie is probably one I've seen the most out of all on the list. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play two desk job cops that work daily at the office; one, who is itching to make a proper name for himself, and the other who is content as he is. The two are paired together and sent out to deal with a fraud case which gives them the opportunity to prove what they can do. My favourite scene is any of the two bickering back and forth and Terry (Mark Wahlberg) hitting Allen (Will Farrell) with a wooden gun. Ha. You'd have to watch it to know. I remember being so eager to see this movie in theatres when it first came out - and surely, it didn't disappoint me. I think I even did a movie report on it at some point for school...

BLACK SWAN

Unlike the rest of the movies, Black Swan isn't a comedy, but more of a drama/thriller. As a dancer, it hits pretty close to home and I see a lot of the elements in the movie happen in real life, daily - right before my eyes. The movie is about a beautiful aspiring ballerina who lets her obsession with becoming the leading role in Swan Lake take over her life. She begins to lose her mind over the course of the film, if you want to put it that way. It even touches on the classic teacher/student ballet scandal. It may seem pretty crazy to you while watching the mind games/illusions that go on in the movie, but sometimes this is the reality of a ballerina. If you want a good brain twister - this is it.

CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER

Right off the bat - this movie was the first movie I cried while watching. I'm not sure if I was just extra emotional or whatever, but yeah, I'll admit... I did cry a little or a lot. It's about a married couple who plan on getting a divorce, but still live together and are basically inseparable. All of their friends call them out and think it's weird how close they are and how they still do everything together. A plot twist has their friendship up in the air and puts it to the test. Once again with Andy Samberg. He's a funny, funny dude and I loved his work on SNL, with The Lonely Island too. Rashida Jones directed the movie too, I believe. I have a massive girl crush on her - I think she's too cool. I don't think it could get better than these two in a movie like this. NOTE: Watch for the wedding scene. I bawled.

THE PROPOSAL

This is actually one of the latest movies I've seen, despite it being out for awhile. I absolutely love Sandra Bullock, I think she's a great actress, funny too; and Ryan Reynolds... I saw him once having lunch with Blake Lively a table across from me! But anyhow - for a bribe of becoming head editor, Ryan's character agrees to marry his boss (Sandra) as a sham, who is threatened by being deported due to an issue with her Canadian citizenship. All the characters are so well put together in the movie and the sentimental/humorous scenes balanced each other out perfectly.

Seen any good movies lately? Let me know. I need some good recommendations!
