the blogging process: update + my advice for new bloggers.

Blogging is so weird. I write posts, edit them, take photos with self-timer and a tripod, write a little more, come up with more ideas, write, check what entries get the most views, cater to the demographics, write, repeat, etc.. all by myself for the most part. I write during all my spares between classes, gather inspiration by reading whatever I can get my hands on, adapt writing styles from various authors and rebuild upon my own.
I get things done.
I thought I'd give you an update about where I stand as of right now.
I started this blog page in March of 2014 and I never expected anything out of it; I still don't expect much out of it. The reason being - I never wanted to treat this as a business over a passion - and I promise you, that will not change. My passion for writing will drive this blog to where it needs to be. This will grow organically and no other way. I won't allow it. This is my way of saying I don't need to get started off of other people's money or status. Today, here I am debating on a new Macbook and a camera lens in hopes to step my blogging game up an extra notch. I plan my entries day by day and edit them every chance I get. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my routine days for writing.
Something that struck me was a recent conversation I had with a good friend of mine. We talked about our career paths and about being lawyers and doctors and whatever else kind of highly-thought-of career possible. She told me: "I can only see you doing what you are now. Writing. Blogging. Being an intern for an amazing, up-and-coming company. I can't see you doing anything else." And truthfully, I can't either. I can't imagine sitting at a desk working a 9-5 all day (not that it's a bad thing!), but I need to live out my creativity and pursue an art form that I love. It kind of bothers me that there are people (mostly of the older generations) who criticize those who choose a profession out of the law/medical field. Don't ever settle for something you don't want to do. Always pursue what you love the most! Sometimes I think the people who degrade our choices forget who raised our generation to be what it is.
Currently - I'm in the midst of formulating more ideas which I plan to carry out (hopefully soon).
MY ADVICE:
As for advice, the main thing is to be consistent, stay true and be honest with yourself, as well as your readers! We all started at zero, don't forget that. It's easy to get big headed when it comes to the success you may or may not see. Remember that blogging is a slow process - extra emphasis on slow. I've had times where I didn't bother writing for weeks or even finding inspiration. Lesson learned: I didn't gain anything from doing so; I lost more with time than I could've even gained. Stay consistent with writing and posting. Have a designated day to write/shoot photos, then the next, edit and post entries. Set your mind to what you want and you will get it - it may take awhile but it will happen.
Still, I am not where I'd hoped to be, but I think I'm where I need to be. I've got a long way to go.
Why would you settle for any less than what you want?
