JAMES BAY [bae?] || 4.27.16.

Crisis mode. I'm 100% positive that satan planned The 1975 and James Bay playing in the same city, on the same night. What a nightmare; I mean, how are you supposed to decide between the two -- especially when The 1975 just released a bombass record and James Bay is James Bay?! I had already seen The 1975 once in 2014 and the James Bay tickets were a gift for my birthday, so naturally, I decided to stick with 'em and not sell it.. well and I guess he's just that good.
I knew the concert would be nothing short of great -- but I didn't really know what to expect of the show. But holy crap, I'm shook. From stage lighting down to James himself, everything was magic. I was actually really surprised at how receptive the crowd was (for a Vancouver one, at least).
Everyone knew when to be silent and when to belt.
'Scars' was a standout song for me - and has always been - but specifically live. The theatre was completely silent and it seemed like it was just James, storytelling about some sort of heartbreak, living through scars, all through his ability to belt it out like no one was in the room.
Something that stood out to me was a line he sang:
"Get out, get out while you still can
don't let the night slip through your hands
the world is wide from where you stand
so, get out, get out while you still can"
I never quite paid attention to this song as much as the others, but for some reason it resonated at that specific time and place. Often, I find myself falling into a "rut", when everything seems to fall through. It made me realize that this world is so wide and so vast that I have no reason to be ungrateful for anything, really. I have so much left to do, and to let it all just slip through my hands is a waste.
Falling in love with live show photography all over again. Hoping the rest of 2016 is one for building my camera skills and what not.
I can close my eyes and see it play over in my head. I've been to many, many live shows but James Bay takes a spot amongst one of the very best I've seen. If you ever have a chance to see him.... 10/10 recommend. Go hear his beautiful voice.
