A WEEK OF... || 8123
11:47:00 PMBy now, everyone probably knows how enthusiastic I am about 8123 - whether it be the fact I carry around my 8123 duffel everywhere I go or my incessant + shameless amount of posts on Instagram. If you aren't too familiar with 8123, I'll do my best to describe what it is.. or what it means to me, at the very least. I get asked very (and when I mean 'very'.. i mean very) often about what the four numbers symbolize and to be completely honest, I can't seem to pinpoint an answer that will take me less than 10 minutes to describe.
The origin of 8123, from what I've read/heard, is the address of an emptied out parking lot that a group of friends hung out around growing up - most of which were in local bands. Lyrically, it's mentioned in the song 'We All Roll Along' by The Maine, a song reminiscent of good nights, with good friends. The song talks about experiencing first cigarettes, reckless weekends and feeling alive with the ones who matter most, by your side. Over the course of many years, 8123 has evolved into something much more than just a parking lot hangout, more than just a line in a song. Fast forward to the present day in 2015, 8123 has branded itself into an independent music label/management/artist collective, with eight internationally touring bands (The Maine being a core artist), a photographer + a producer to its name. Even more recently, the collective expanded its horizons by building a recording studio into their headquarters.
As the artists in the label are evidently self-driven, independent and seek motivation purely by the music, another driving force is the dedicated and growing fan base attached. Watching 8123 grow in following over the past few years has been the most incredible experience.
I'd also just like to point out that amongst all the band/musician merchandise I've seen, 8123 by far has the best, most fashionable, affordable and comfortable clothing. Their fall/winter line is my absolute favourite. I could go on and on about it - and you'll see me do so on this week's series.
As I've said before, I've always been heavily influenced by homegrown/organically grown artists like those involved in 8123. It's amazing to see how much they have accomplished over the years, yet still making sure to stay true to their initial beliefs; and more importantly - making sure to remain true to themselves. I am no fortune teller or life foreseer, but I can tell that the future holds only good for 8123. I am also not one to believe in 'karma', but I truly believe those who do good, will receive good in return.

My interpretation is that 8123 isn't as much of a place anymore, as it is a group of people. Everyone wants to feel apart of something; to play a role in a family.
Built on independence + common blood.
This is 8123.
